In recent months, Ngee Ann Secondary School has rise to become a future school. The school is well equipped with ICT to facilitate the classroom teachings. ICT is integrated into the classroom learning setting through projects and syllabus developed by ICT committee and teachers in the school. This was applied to the different subjects and classes to make learning a more holistic experience for the students. The ICT committee continues to spearhead the research and development in providing more platforms for teachers to use.
It is clearly visible that the three master plans had set its foothold in Ngee Ann Secondary School as part of its culture in learning and growing. I am glad that, given this opportunity to experience and learn from the school. I am able to see the fruition of the master plan in the process. During my stay in Ngee Ann Secondary School, teachers have been very supportive and encouraging in their effort to help students in learning, which inspires me to be like them.

I can remember back in my secondary school days in 1986-1990 in Ping Yi secondary school. We have a computer lab that was located on the fourth level of the classroom block. Last September, I joined Ngee Ann Secondary School as a contract teacher teaching Art and CPA. The school is well facilitated with special rooms for different subjects such as mathematics, design and technology, art, computer application and music room. These special rooms were equipped with, tablets, desktop computers, mackintosh, and lap top computers. Syllabus is developed for the use of the technology for students.
Singapore is a small place we need to keep up with changes and upgrade our software and hardware to maintain our competitive edge in the competition. The three stages of the ICT master plan allows education in Singapore to integrate and equip the future generation with ICT skills to meet the demand of the global weather. The development of the three master plans is inline with global technology literacy. Each stage of the plan allows us to gradually equip the schools, teachers, and students. Educators are equipped with knowledge and tools to apply in their pedagogy in the classrooms. I do go online to a lot of research using reliable sources and organizations that provides knowledge. Cross discipline studies is made easier with the internet. The same information can be uploaded onto a screen in different areas of the world. That makes it efficient for sharing, learning and updating the information on cyberspace. Students are not limited to the use of just physical books anymore. Knowledge can be learn and experience through self-learning using the internet. By providing software and hard ware, given reliable academic sources such as libraries, organizations, museums and academic sites, students can acquire knowledge and develop independent learning by themselves.
Ngee Ann students are equipped with the right tools to do research and self-learning. The secondary three art students were able to use the macs in the art room to do research for their preparation boards.
As a beginning teacher, I felt the three master plans had established a platform for teaching in the contemporary setting. I strongly agree to students encouraged to exercise self-learning, which will benefits them in their life long learning process. Being ICT savvy has it cutting edge fore front in a competitive market. This makes learning more interesting and diverse. ICT is an important tool in learning and social development.

Ngee Ann Secondary School
Class 2R4 Express students
The students in the class are enthusiastic about what they do and learn. They pay good attention in class that make it efficient for the teacher to deliver the information. Student overall are attentive and able to explore and learn on their own when given the assignment to do.
ICT is used to conduct art classes. Ngee Ann secondary school has this Get Smart project that helps student to learn about art that was developed by Mr Adrian Lim, Mrs Gloria Tan, and Miss Sophia Coelho. This project aims to engage student in a three dimensional setting making thinking visible. It is done through this online program called “Second Life”. It is a virtual space gallery setting that paintings and photographs were displayed to allow students to walk through the gallery using an avatar. In the process, the student will have to complete a work sheet that was formulated for this assignment. Students were able to use Socratic questioning method to question what they see, think and wonder. Each painting and photographs in the gallery is accompanied by a notice board that allows the student to leave a note and comment on what they have see and learn about the artwork. The students was able to use the online chat to interact with their friends and all the chat messages can be printed out and used as an assessment of what the student have experience and learned.
The intention for using the virtual space to teach students is to enable them to have a 3 dimensional experience within a two dimensional space. The constrain of physical space does not exist on the internet. It opens up an alternative space for different possibilities for educators and using it a platform to teach students about art.
Steven Wong and Alvin Tan, currently spearheading Ngee Ann Secondary School ICT committee came up with different projects to aide students using ICT. Mr. Alvin Tan introduced the use QR quote in their worksheets and notes. The QR quotes were used to embed answers and video in the worksheets and notes. Students just have to use an iphone or ipod to scan the QR code and the devices will search for the URL embedded in the QR quote and present them with notes and answers.
